The Subways ‘Money & Celebrity, is now available in a limited edition red and white split vinyl. Originally released in 2011, the third studio album is packed with adrenaline-pumping anthems!
Recorded and produced by Stephen Street (The Smiths, BLUR, Kaiser Chiefs) in London, Money & Celebrity is The Subways at their most dynamic, featuring hit singles like "We Don’t Need Money to Have a Good Time," which received widespread radio support, including heavy rotation on BBC Radio 1, and "It's a Party," which became a fan favourite after the band released it out of the blue via their website with no prior warning, crashing their server.
The album stormed into the charts, peaking at #16 on the UK Albums Chart. The lead single "We Don’t Need Money to Have a Good Time" was a radio favourite, climbing to #12 on the UK Indie Chart and #1 on the UK Physical Singles Chart. The album also enjoyed chart success across Europe, reaching the Top 20 in Germany and Austria.
“This was the album that came after our very British Young for Eternity and very American All or Nothing. We’ve always been equally influenced by artists from these two poles of musical heritage, and wanted to find a way to fuse them. And so we have: Money and Celebrity. The result of bearing witness to the yet further rise in the material and celebrity cultures around the 2010s. Recording it with Stephen Street felt so perfect, as he’d helmed so many of the greatest (and best-sounding) records we’ve heard dealing with similar subjects.” Billy Lunn
