NME - Krissi Murison

4/5 Macca's thumb ratings & "Best Unsigned Band"

"Snatched from obscurity to play Glasto, suburban teen-punk trio The Subways are the band Farmer Eavis is calling the new Oasis. Is that such a good idea?

Tunes
Thankfully, Eavis is a crazy man. The Subways sound nothing like Oasis. In place of bloated, middle-aged man rock, they hurl sweetened dirt-bombs of scuzzy, girl/boy glam, such as single "I'm In Love".

Look
Sporting a tight micro-mini, black boots and a get-back stare, bombshell bassist Mary-Charlotte Cooper is the kind of girl hairy men in Australian retro-rock bands write songs about. Singer/guitarist Billy Lunn, on the other hand looks like a bong-munching student.

Siblings
Despite the curiously differing surnames, Billy and drummer Josh Morgan are in fact brothers, just like Liam & Noel Gallagher. Even better, Billy and Mary-Charlotte are currently pashing, unlinke Liam & Noel. The possibilities for incestuous three-way love triangles are, in our heads at least, endless."
