With their pin-up good looks and fireball energy, THE SUBWAYS are the sexiest thing to sweep rock'n'roll off it's feet in years.

"Just like a 13-year old Charlotte Cooper did to a 15 year-old Billy Lunn when he spotted her across a crowded pool towards the end of the last millenium. Who could know that five years later, competitive swimming would have been ditched for a life os sweaty glam-punk?

"I just fell in love with her straight away", says The Subways misty-eyed frontman, gazing at his diminutive blonde, bass wielding missus. Recent blinder of a garage-racket single '1am' was all about Billy's hots for his lady. "It's about her completely gripping me. I'd get home after a horrible day working at a hotel and see her and it just made everything else so shit."

It's not all sex and saccharine love stories though. "I also wrote about the time I vomited on the green outside my house." Class.

Welwyn Garden City's Subways got together when Billy wanted to enter a local band competition, but realised that singing Nirvana's 'Rape Me' on his own would make him look like a bit of a twat. So, keeping it in the family, he taught his little brother, Josh Morgan, now 18, the drums and his girlfriend bass. One week later they got to the semi-finals; sadly, the shite reggae band who won have since disbanded.

For The Subways though, the narrow defeat only fuelled them on. Last year, they entered and won the Glastonbury new bands competition. When you see them live, you'll understand why. They're a buzz of frantic, feverish voltage just waiting to explode - and they frequently do.

"I've thrown my guitar at Josh before," says Billy, "Charlotte's dove at Josh, Josh had thrown his snare at me and I've tried to kick Charlotte."

The latest in a long line of foxy rock Charlottes that include Charlotte Hatherley, and er, Good Charlotte, The Subways version has reservations about becoming an indie sex symbol, "When blokes come up to me after gigs, it makes me want to run and hide. I only wear miniskirts up on stage because it gets really hot!" she squeals. Josh however, curls bouncing around his baby-face, is more than happy with the approaches from fans. "We all get it at every show. In fact, I get more guys after me than girls. I'm a gay icon."

Young, gorgeous and tasty - get The Subways while they're still hot."
