With an average
age of just 19 yrs, you'd think that the prospect of playing
one of their first London shows in front of 600 people would
daunt The Subways, but this band are already well versed in
the dynamics of a bigger stage.
After winning
a competition to play the Glastonbury Festival this year,
Michael Eavis and friends were so impressed with the band
they promoted them from the New Band Tent to third on at the
Other Stage. By the second song tonight the reasons for this
are clear. The solid rhythm section coupled with the powerful
vocals 'n' guitar of the lead singer are something we're more
used to seeing from seasoned US artists on their third or
fourth album; not some youngsters from just north of the M25.
Punctuated
by the kind of guitar sound that can take some bands a decade
to perfect, and with songs like '1am' and 'Rock 'n' Roll Girl'
showing real glimpes of pop sensibility, this is a band that
are not going to be playing support slots for very much longer.
