Local promotion
co-op Fuzzy Logic pulled off something of a coup last week
at Pane & Table's regular Monday night hardcore/indie
session by combining a launch party for XFM
- touted The Others' debut single, "This Is For The Poor",
with a celebration of The Subways clinching of a place on
the Other Stage at Glastonbury!
Following some
well-chosen tracks from the dj booth, we were treated to a
full frontal assault from the new heirs-apparent : The
Subways. In two short years this power-punk trio
have gone from playing school halls to supporting The Datsuns
and a slot at Glasto, despite a noticeable lack of publicity-seeking.
In fact, as their manager explained, they're deliberately
keeping a low profile, preferring to let their live reputation
do the talking.
It's the right
approach - not content with not talking to the press, The
Subways scarcely acknowledge their audience...instead, they
plunge head-long into a 30 minute set so teeming with energy
they hardly have time to breathe between songs, let alone
chat to the crowd! Coming on like an unholy merger of The
Ramones and The White Stripes, these guys give us as fine
a set of punk-pop gems as I've heard in a long time. They
seem to have been born with an innate grasp of the important
things in rock'n'roll - kick ass, no frills, bad to the bone
stuff. Moreover, they're only 19, and they look great. If
u've not seen 'em yet, you're missing something precious!
Following that wasn't going to be easy...
A good night
for The Subways, and a great night for Fuzzy Logic! And thank
heavens for Nurofen!!
